Live Sax at Heritage Lounge Parramatta
Tuesday 3 November, from midday until late. Orget plays live saxophone through The Heritage Precinct as the room moves from the big race into the evening.
Some rooms do half the work for you. Heritage Lounge is one of them. It sits inside the restored Bank of New South Wales building on Church Street, and it has kept every good part of the 1920s: the high ceilings, the stone, the old timber, the sense that something is about to happen. Walking in, guests feel the occasion before anyone has said a word.
That is exactly the room live saxophone was made for. On Melbourne Cup Day, Orget plays the afternoon and into the night, moving through the crowd with the horn while the DJ holds the floor and the races run on the screens.

What the ticket includes
Melbourne Cup at The Heritage Precinct is built as one full day rather than a sit down lunch and a quick exit. The precinct stays open from midday until late, and every part of it is working at once.
- A live grazing feast from Oribu, the Japanese kitchen inside the precinct.
- The full Heritage Lounge bar, cocktails, rare spirits, wine and sake.
- The Le Cheval cigar lounge, open throughout the event for the complete Heritage Precinct experience.
- Every Melbourne Cup race streamed live across the screens.
- A resident DJ carrying the room from the afternoon into the evening.
- Orget on saxophone, live in the room with the crowd, not behind a stage.
- Fashions on the Field, with Best Dressed Woman and Best Dressed Man.
- Prizes for the competition winners across the day.
Why live sax works in this room
A great function room gives you a backdrop. Live music gives you a memory. In a space with this much character the saxophone does not fight the room, it works with it. Orget plays without a stage, so the sound finds people where they stand: at the bar, by the windows, mid conversation.
The run of a Cup Day suits that. Three movements, one horn:
- Arrival, 12pm to 2pm: roaming saxophone as guests settle in, drinks land and the room fills.
- The race, around 3pm: the big moment, the toast, the finish, scored live as the room watches.
- Evening, 4pm to late: the sax moving through the crowd as the day turns into a night out.
The Heritage Precinct
Three rooms, one building, all open on the day. Heritage Lounge for cocktails and the bar programme, Oribu for the grazing feast, and Le Cheval for cigars and a slower pace when the racing is done. It is a short walk from Parramatta station and a few minutes from the river.
If you are coming with a group, a client list or a team, book early. Cup Day at The Heritage Precinct sells on tables rather than single seats, and the afternoon session goes first.
